Mosites Construction
Co. was selected to complete this historical restoration of the
"Million Dollar Bridge" by the West Virginia Department of Transportation.
The project was located in Fairmont, WV, and some of the major components
of the work included:
Complete
Pier, Rib Wall and Deck reconstruction on both approaches and all
three concrete arches. 380 meters long, 15 spans over the Monongahela
River.
- 6400
square meters of 37.5 mm thick pneumatically applied dry-mixed
shotcrete to all four sides of the existing concrete arches.
- 4734
square meters of corrosion engineering mesh installed as a corrosion
inhibitor on all three arches.
- 760
meters of 2.2 meter wide concrete, pedestrian sidewalks.
- 760
meters of architectural precast parapet.
- 39
total architectural precast light poles.
This
project provided unique challenges for both Mosites Construction
Co. and the architect, HNTB. The structure is listed on the national
historic register and was partially federally funded. Mosites Construction
Co. overcame many difficult constructability issues through the
use of architectural precast and hard work. The project stands today
as a symbol of the past and as an important "bridge" to the future.
