Competing
with nine other contractors, Mosites Construction Company won the
competitive bid award for construction of a new water treatment
plant in McKeesport, PA
The
plant's location adjacent to the Youghiogheny River presented numerous
challenges, since much of the construction had to be done below
river level with excavations made down to 15 feet below the river
pool.
Mosites
first constructed cofferdams driven sheet piling then dewatering.
Next, Mosites built massive concrete foundations that included concrete
tanks and channels. Then Mosites utilized various concrete forming
systems to construct walls, piers, elevated slabs, beams, columns
and weirs to finish complete cast-in-place structure.
Mosites
also coordinated the intricate instrumentation and mechanical systems
to bring the McKeesport Plant on line.
With
a system capacity of 10 million gallons per day, the plant now operates
on a completely automated and computerized processing system, supplying
water to the McKeesport area.
