Located in the
hub of Pittsburgh's educational community, The Carnegie cultural
complex required site improvements and a new parking facility for
staff and their many patrons. Initially the project was competitively
bid but failed to achieve The Carnegie's budget goals. Mosites Construction
Company and one other contractor were then short listed to present
their design/build experience.
With
attention to the mandates of Williams Trebilcock Whitehead related
to appearance and function. Mosites addressed the challenges of
the sloping Panther Hollow site. Using caissons, pipe piles and
soldier piles, Mosites designed cost-effective foundations. This,
combined with precast concrete engineering and mechanical and electrical
design from Mosites Construction's preselected subcontractors, satisfied
The Carnegie's budget concerns.
The
project also included an improved entrance from Forbes Avenue, landscaping
throughout the site, a bridge to The Carrnegie Library and two decks
especially designed for future office or storage space.
Completed
within eight months, the facility provided parking and convenient
access for the fall opening of the acclaimed "International Exhibit."
